Bridging the Gap: A Visit to the Woodlawn Academy of Business and Finance

I had a great time this week talking, laughing and building with an amazing group of 10th graders in Woodlawn High School’s Academy of Business and Finance. The talk was an initiative of the Birmingham Education Foundation called “Bridging the Gap” in which students were given face time with a professor, an entrepreneur and a corporate executive. Specifically, I shared a panel with entrepreneur Rickey White and Area President for Regions Bank Leroy Abrahams in which we talked with students about our experiences during and after high school and how high school prepared us for what we do today. Some of the questions students asked included the following:

What would you do differently if you could go back to high school? How many jobs have you had?

When did you realize what you wanted to do in life? Did you ever imagine that you would be where you are today?

How long does it take to finish college?

I want to start an international business. Will I learn that in college?

How old are you (to which they replied “Dang you old!!)?

I proudly support this and various other programs of the Ed Foundation with my time, my talents and my treasure. I encourage you to do the same. It is good ground.
