Community Investment Network Lunch and Learn

I am on the executive board of a “giving circle” called the Birmingham Change Fund (BCF), which is a group of young African-American philanthropists committed to strategically and collectively investing our time, talent, treasure and testimony (i.e. the 4Ts) in organizations and causes that support and improve conditions in our community. BCF is a member of the Community Investment Network, a national association of giving circles and philanthropic organizations.

CIN and BCF would like to invite you to participate in a roundtable luncheon discussion Friday April 15, 2016 from 12pm-1pm in BEC 315 on ways in which college students can begin to incorporate philanthropy into their personal and professional development plans. Discussion topics will include:
– What is philanthropy?
– What is a philanthropist?
– What role does philanthropy play in my career?
– Are African Americans typically portrayed as being on the giving or receiving end of philanthropy?

Participants will leave this session with a greater understanding of concepts such as social justice, social responsibility, social entrepreneurship, collective philanthropy and strategic giving. This would also be a great networking opportunity given that many members of BCF are in positions of influence in their firms and in the community.
